The Foundation Karla Sofia it is a non-profit organization dedicated to significantly improving the lives of children with Down syndrome through the recreation, medical care, education and legal advice.
The Foundation Karla Sofia is an inclusive organization without membership or political or religious.
The Foundation provides children with Down syndrome are unique programs that create environments of ‘inclusion’ in a natural way, family support, and meaningful participation in the community.
Our history
Over 7 years ago, there was one thing that Yanedis and Carlos were the same and was the future of his daughter, it turned out that I had been born with Down syndrome. On that day, the doctor who attended your birth gave them the news that our daughter would have Down syndrome, it was like a revelation.
“Of course at the beginning I was shocked, but it was as if a diagnosis in itself will become instantly a better person”, and as parents were totally agree: that you were going to love and raise this baby, no matter what.
At birth, some babies with Down syndrome tend to develop heart disease congenital, and that was his case. A morning of October 13, 2015, her baby had died in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Currently, have led the recreational and joy to more than 1,500 people and their families. The first program of the foundation is called “Christmas campaign: Bringing joy to the children of barrio Boston”in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, and began with a group of 50 children.
